We’re coming to the end of the financial year, so we’re looking back on all the charitable events and fundraisers we’ve put on to raise money for our chosen charity, the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance over the past year.

Open the box

Open the box is a luck of the draw fundraiser where people buy raffle tickets for their chance to win £20 and the opportunity to select a key to the jackpot box. The fundraiser proceeds are split in the following way – £20 to the winner then 50% to the charity and remaining balance going into the jackpot. Because of this, it is a good way of building up money for the charity, as well as giving a greater incentive each week for people to take part. Open the Box is a popular fundraiser at Long Clawson Dairy – raising £491 in total.

Tough Mudder Half

The Tough Mudder Half is a 5-mile challenge with 13 obstacles designed to test your teamwork and toughness. All Tough Mudder courses involve teamwork, getting outside your comfort zone and a whole lot of mud. Staff raised £203.95 this year through online donations and bake sales.

Team Brazil at the Office Olympics

Office Olympics

In mid-August, we hosted the Office Olympics. This was a week-long event of staff getting into fancy dress at lunch time and taking part in office-themed Olympics-style events. The week featured welly wanging, stilton rolling, overly-competitive members of staff and a bake sale. All in all, the week was a huge success, and we raised £72.45 in total.

Staff showing off their badges during Air Ambulance week

Air Ambulance week

During National Air Ambulance Week, all the member charities promote the work undertaken locally but also to give a united national voice to the Air Ambulance. We held a fundraising activity every day throughout the week from guessing how many sweets were in a jar to welly wanging to dress down Friday. We sold Air Ambulance badges throughout the week and held a very successful cake sale on Thursday and Friday to bring the final total raised to an impressive £169.75.

Christmas cards & raffle

Every year we purchase charity Christmas cards from the Air Ambulance to send out to our suppliers, producers and members. This year we contributed £168 through the purchase of Christmas cards. We also held a staff Christmas raffle, with prizes ranging from an iPad Air to goody boxes to a Christmas Cake kindly donated by the Air Ambulance. This year we managed to raise £302 through our Christmas raffle.

Cake sale for Valentine’s day

Valentine’s bake off & sale

We celebrated Valentine’s Day by hosting a bake-off competition and cake sale. Cakes were mainly judged on their taste, but extra points were given for those with a Valentine’s theme or Air Ambulance theme. All cake entries went on sale after the judging, raising £43.34.

Wearing green for St Patrick’s Day

St Patricks Day

We wanted to prove that fundraisers can be as simple as encouraging people to wear green and donate £1! We also held a small Ireland/St Patrick’s themed quiz, with a prize for the winner and a prize for the person wearing the most amount of green. Contributions from the day, along with money already in our collection tins made for a total of £64.49.

After lots of small fundraising activities throughout the year, we are happy to announce that our grand total for 2016/17 is £1644.59!

Looking forward

We will continue to support the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance throughout 2017/18. In fact, our Marketing Assistant, Jasmine, is taking on the White Peak Challenge, walking 22 miles through the Peak District National Park over two days. Her aim is fundraise at least £250 before the event, which is running from the 19th – 21st May. You can find her sponsorship page here.
