A vacancy has arisen for a Team Leader to join our busy production team. You will be responsible for staff and appropriate machinery within the department and surrounding/associated areas. You will ensure staff are managed effectively and efficiently and carry out their allocated duties to the correct standard /specification. In addition, anticipation and planning to ensure the smooth running and efficiency of all areas, is vital.

Key Responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Ensure the department and associated equipment and staff are ready and available in advance, for the start of each shift and all associated change over’s
  • Achieve set targets and work towards reducing wage costs, and improving waste management and effluent targets, where applicable
  • Control, plan and mobilise employees across all production/packing areas, controlling a variety of different tasks efficiently at the same time
  • Ensuring product sampling , check weighing and process quality control checks are completed and recorded where appropriate
  • Carry out daily start-up Safety checks and maintain accurate records, ensuring all staff use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where appropriate
  • Communicate daily targets and delivery of production plan to all employees concerned
  • Manage staff morale and seek to resolve ad hoc staffing issues
  • Identify training needs and assist with organisation and delivery of training
  • Daily, weekly and monthly stock control duties
  • Ensure close integration with engineering staff, to maximise efficiencies
  • Assist in effective implementation of company Quality and environmental objectives
  • Effectively “close out” any non-compliances raised by customer or internal audits, by implementing appropriate corrective actions
  • Develop and nurture an ethos of continuous improvement within the workforce
  • Strive to improve productivity and cost reduction through control of waste and losses, e.g. water, detergents, raw materials and energy
  • Have a thorough understanding of product and process controls.
  • Deputise for the Supervisor in their absence
  • Contribute to and ensure support, for project work being carried out as planned
  • Outside normal office hours, assume responsibility on site, which includes site Health & Safety, Security, Fire and evacuation of personnel, liaison with Public and Law Enforcement Authorities, communicating and liaising with relevant Management in the event of an emergency or Major Incident
  • Ensure Health & Safety procedures, Quality/Hygiene standards and Company Rules/Procedures are adhered to at all times
  • Be responsible for and ensure Product quality is maintained in accordance with quality standards
  • Report problems or issues as they arise, which may impact on product quality or Production activities
  • Timely and accurate cleaning of the line and end of day dismantling and cleaning of equipment, tools and work area where appropriate

Experience & Skills


  • Current Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate (to be achieved within 12 months)
  • Health & Safety trained in Manual handling, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and risk assessment
  • Self motivated and able to motivate staff
  • GCSE or equivalent level of education – good level of numeracy & literacy in order to carry out area reporting activities and produce written daily production requirements
  • Basic IT skills including Excel and Word
  • Must be able to prioritise tasks and deadlines
  • Understanding of Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP) (to be achieved within 6 months)
  • Must be able to work on own initiative
  • Ambitious, driven and passionate about making improvements, which lead to visible financial results and increase factory control and ownership
  • Adaptable/flexible to meet requirements and demands of production and seasonal fluctuations
  • Must possess an understanding of Allergen awareness
  • Industrious and able to work under pressure
  • Training in knowledge of use of dangerous equipment


  • Knowledge of quality and compliance systems
  • Food/process manufacturing background.
